How to Succeed at Tryouts 101

💥 INNER G ENTERPRISE – ATHLETE TRYOUT PREP GUIDE“Development is the Real Win.”

🧠 HOW DO I MAKE THE TEAM? WHY DIDN’T I MAKE THE TEAM?These are the questions every athlete and parent asks. But here's the real question:👉 Did you prepare for the jump—or did you just leap?

Most athletes try to move up without preparation. They jump levels based on emotion or desire—not readiness. At Inner G Enterprise, we believe:Prepare not just to try out—prepare to transition. Prepare to compete. Prepare to stay.

This guide is designed to help you take the right steps before tryouts, to increase confidence, performance, and awareness of what it really takes to grow as an athlete.

🎯 WHAT TO EXPECT AT TRYOUTSTryouts are an evaluation of your current skillset—not a teaching session.Coaches are watching for:

  • Strong fundamentals

  • Hustle, energy, and competitiveness

  • Coachability and attitude

  • Readiness to develop at a higher level

Tryouts don’t measure perfection—they measure where you are and how you handle pressure.

🧢 DRESS LIKE A COMPETITORPresentation is a silent language—it speaks before you do.

  • Wear clean, sport-appropriate gear

  • Shirts tucked in, belt on, shoes tied

  • Bring all necessary equipment (bat, glove, helmet, cleats, pads, etc.)

  • Be sharp, clean, and confident

🚫 Do not show up in shorts (unless sport-specific), slides, baggy clothes, or unorganized gear.✅ Look like you already belong.

🧰 RESPECT YOUR EQUIPMENTYour gear is your toolbox. Treat it like a pro.

  • No dragging, slamming, or tossing your equipment

  • Keep your bag clean and sorted

  • Coaches notice how you treat your gear—it reflects discipline, maturity, and respect

🔑 CONTROL THE CONTROLLABLESTalent varies—but attitude and effort are always in your control:

  • Effort – Go all out every rep

  • Attitude – Be coachable, focused, and positive

  • Focus – Stay locked in, follow instructions

  • Body Language – Stand tall, stay engaged

  • Respect – Show it to teammates, coaches, opponents, and the game itself

Energy, hustle, and character make an athlete stand out.

📋 WHAT TO BRING TO TRYOUTS
